Felling trees

This is taken in mid fall as the great tree creaks and groans then falls with a giant thud to the ground.
Felling Trees

We began felling trees in November 2015 until February 2016
Beautiful white and 'pink' eucalyptus trees, tall as sentinels growing in a thick forest on the banks of the Hermanus lagoon.
We cut 9m lengths for the walls of our log house, as well as 6m and 3m lengths for various parts of the house.

Notice ME standing at the foot of one of these blue gum giants at leaset 30 metres in height! (Above.)

There was always a lot of trimming of branches to be done.
These had to be carried off for burning later.
Once the trunk was clear of all the branches, it could be measured out and cut into 9m lengths.
Darryl, Mischa and friends as well as casuals sweated and worked in the hot sun!

Sometimes a tree would fall 'wrong' and get stuck in the sand, wedged against another tree.
Then we had to be creative about trying to get it to fall!
Needless to say we snapped a few ropes.
