The 'Underneath area' and flatlet
Underneath...
Underneath the house, the slope was rocky and quite steep. We thought it would be an awesome patio area.... cool and shady with a beautiful view. There's a huge rock outcrop which lends itself to wild ideas of a water feature or lush lillys.
We evened out the slope to two flat terraced areas. The top one to hold the water tanks and the bottom one, the patio area.
Top area for water tanks,
Patio area for relaxing.
My rock.
We started a retaining wall between the two levels to counteract possible erosion.
(The reason for so many walls is because we have so many rocks.)
My rock.
The top (Where the JoJo's will stand) was sifted, then sand laid down and compacted to form a good, flat platform.
Mischa built an innovative contraption to sift the rubble and bag the sand as it comes out the chute.
The rubble was also shoveled into bags to be used for other terraces in the garden.
Darryl began with the electrical wiring and plumbing while we wait for the third log delivery.
He also started with the 'think pink' wadding (Chinking) between the logs, securing it with galvanized or passivated nails every 5cm.
(This ensures that when the plastering between the logs is done, it will have something to cling to.)
The Flatlet....
As we were STILL waiting for our logs to be delivered, Darryl decided to go ahead with finishing off the flat. The entrance door to a store room on the right.
The entrance to the flat on the left.
The store room on the left,
the flat entrance on the right.
The joists for the floor were put in
Then Darryl 'stubbed' his toe comprehensively and thoroughly. to the extreme.
(A visit to the Doctor, part of his nail removed and 4 stitches later.)
That why he's wearing slippers on a work site.
The kitchenette window.
The plastering .....
.......and the screeding of the roof.
