The house floor

The house floor starts going down.  We're using red gum so the floor has a pinkish tinge to it. A bit more flooring... Just short of half way!!! Three quarters done! The guys average about 9 rows of planks per day except around the pillars where the going is a lot slower because each plank has to be shaped to perfection. (Steven and Timo have done an excellent job.) the tongue and groove of each plank was scraped clean for a better fit The loft We hired an industrial sander which Blessing and I shared - then Darryl and I sanded the areas around the pillars and also the wall edges with an orbital sander. It gets dusty! Darryl covered the gap between the wall and the logs with a shelf using old melamine counter tops from his office.           In between jobs, Precious and Blessing finished the reed work underneath the house,            ...

Upstairs.... The floor planks have been sanded and sealed underneath and are stacked downstairs and ready for laying onto the loft floor. We're left with BAGS of sawdust ...if anyone wants for their garden! Precious and Timo are routing and cleaning the grooves of the planks for smooth fitting... Steve and Blessing start laying the planks. A shot from the future kitchen, below. Darryl had to shape the planks laying against the wall and around the center logs.                            The wood is incredibly hard so it took a LOOOONG time! The floor is almost finished... ...... just the landing has to be done (which was a bit tricky...) but the 3 guys got it sorted. TaDaaaa... Steve and I cleaned up the sawdust so that I could apply sealant into the small cracks between each plank. As you can see, I had help! ...
